Meta tags can be added to new pages so that you can specify your Page Title, Keywords, and Description for search engines. This feature is available to Authors, Editors, Content Managers, and Site Administrators.
Note: Most search engines don't support meta keyword because of the past abuse with "keyword stuffing". However, they do support meta Description. The Descriptions are used as the "snippet" in the search results.
To Edit Metatags
- Log into your website.
- Edit a page (Note: landing pages do not have meta tag editing capability.)
- Scroll to the bottom.
- Click "Meta tags"
You can modify the "Page Title": This allows you to change what's placed in the <title></title> HTML tag for the page. Typically, this defaults to the title of the page, paired with the name of the site. This control essentially allows you to change the title of the page as seen by search engines but have a different title that appears on the web page to your visitors in the <h1> tag (previous to this feature you could not control those independent of each other).
You can modify the "description" metatag. This is what search engines display beneath the page title in search results and defaults to a snippet of your page's body text.
You can toggle various options in the section "robots" which controls how some search engines will index that specific page.
NOTE: By default, all nodes will get a description meta tag based on their body summary.
Advanced Metatag Settings
These features are only available to Content Managers and Site Administrators.
- You can edit the metatags default configuration settings page (Configuration -> Search and Metadata -> Metatag). Here, metatags can be entered for special pages like the front page, the access denied (403) page, and the page not found (404) page. Default values for other content pages can be controlled here as well.
- Enter apple "touch" icons on this same configuration page by clicking the "Override" link for the "Global" type, then expanding the Favicon's and Touch Icons section. There are many different resolutions that need to be specified. The images need to be uploaded separately, and then you need to get the direct path to those images to paste into each section.
